A couple of weeks ago my grandmother noticed water comming up near the patio while the sprinklers were on. Obviosly one of the sprinkler lines had broken. She asked me if I would take care of it for her. I told her I would. So I started to dig and found the break. It had cracked in the middle of a coupler. This is what I found.
A root had grown under the pipe and eventually got so big that it began to bend the pipe until it broke. I first tried to cut through it with the "tetanus saw" but that was way to much work. So I broke out ye olde hatchet. Mr. hatchy made quick work of the root. By the time we finished the repair it was dark. The next morning we (the boys and I) filled in the hole.

Kindof a Handy Manny huh.
The fact that I did it is not important. The size of the root is what amazed me.
